Peer-to-Peer Academy’s Extreme Refractive Errors webinar focuses on alternative options to LASIK. Nick Bruns, OD leads a conversation with John Vukich, MD, Greg Parkhurst, MD, and Jennifer Wong, OD on procedures such as an implantable contact lens (ICL), Light Adjustable Lens™ (LAL™), and refractive lens exchange (RLE).
The doctors shared specific stories of how they helped patients with high refractive error, corneal pathologies, keratoconus, and astigmatism achieve their desired visual outcomes. The speakers emphasized the importance of setting realistic expectations and providing thorough patient education.
They discuss the use of an ICL, such as the EVO ICL™, for high myopia and dry eye patients. For hyperopia, they talk about the benefits of the LAL in cataract surgery or RLE. For astigmatism management, astigmatic keratotomy (AK) and the use of Ally® femtosecond laser technology in cataract surgery was also discussed, with the speakers expressing their belief in its effectiveness, safety, and overall benefit. The conversation also emphasized individualized treatment for patients who have had radial keratotomy (RK) or who have macular degeneration (AMD).
